A message from Pastor Sorensen
Greetings,
As some of you have heard, I was recalled to active duty service. I have been given orders for 1 year (October 1st, 2009 – September 30th 2010) to serve as the Chaplain Candidate Program Manager in Norfolk, VA. This position is not overseas. It is not dangerous. It is a vacant position for which the US Navy believes I am the best qualified interim.
My job will be the management of all seminarians currently enrolled in the Navy’s Chaplain Candidate Program.
I have been working closely with Pastor Tollefson, the church council, and the Synod to ensure a smooth transition. We are also going to be having ongoing conversations about what is best for Prince of Peace in terms of pastoral coverage during this time.
Deborah, Max, and Corin will be staying here. They will continue to go to school here and work here. It is our every intention that I will return to work on October 1st of 2010.
I plan on keeping some kind of journal during this time with reflections and updates. It may appear on the web site or in the Banner. I have not worked out the details yet.
Let us continue to keep one another in our prayers as always.
Peace,
Daniel

The season of Lent brings us very unique ideas to consider. Well, it brings unique ideas to those of us who are paying attention, who do not let the busyness of the world swallow us and our time up completely.
On Sundays we are looking at lessons which remind us that what Jesus did by going to the cross was totally “That You May Have Life.” We use a special gospel verse each week to bring out this message. Please put extra effort into hearing what this gospel verse says to you.
On Wednesdays we put added effort into our response to the gospel, and we look to “Those Who Follow.” Each week we will meet 2 or 3 of the apostles and see what it meant to them to follow Jesus, how did they come to believe, what were their hesitations, how did they feel when they failed in being good followers, what changed in their live as they discovered they were following a whole new way of life? This conversation with the apostles then invites us to consider our own lives, as we too are ‘those who follow.’
Lent is about spring. It is about new life rising out of seemingly barren soil. The newness that will come is not limited to what we might expect. For “Those Who Follow,” the newness will be a joy indeed!
